can wine cause chronic indigestion? I`ve been suffering with chronic indigestion since last Xmas. I drink wine most nights… I know that cant be good! I have had every test going and all they came up with is mild oesopthagitis, for which they had me on ppi that made me really ill! Came off them and gave up wine for a week and was feeling a bit better. Had a glass last night and ill again today! could it have been the wine all along? —Guest louise Dawson hives and itchyness It is very interesting reading all the different reactions to alcohol. It seems that almost everyone is different…as is mine. I am now 24 and my reactions have been getting more frequent over the years as I have been drinking less often as if my immunity somehow diminishes if I don’t keep drinking regularly. Sometimes I break out in hives on my head, neck, and upper back. It usually happens within minutes of my first drink and goes away in about a half an hour. It happens with beer and some whiskeys. The odd thing is that it doesn’t always happen even when I drink out of the same case or bottle of alcohol on a different day. I saw a post about someone breaking out only when they drink within 3 hours of eating food. I am allergic to all kinds of grass, trees, dust… and mildly allergic to some foods. I wonder what foods combined with alcohol cause the hives. Does anyone know? —Guest duffman Allergy or intolerence to alcohol? Hi everyone,

I have recently began to notice that after drinking just a glass of red wine wine my nose gets stuffy and start running (symptoms appear before fininshing a glass). If I continue drinking then my sinusis start playing up and I have a full blown hayfever-like symptoms for the next few days! Has anyone else experienced this? —Guest calliana Itching after drinking a little alchol everytime i try to drink anythink with alchol my face gets really hot and i start to itch all over my body very badly to where it almost hurts —Guest Crystal Brewers yeast allergy For years I have realized I was allergic to something in most alcoholic beverages. I thought the allergy was to grains. It isn’t. I have known I couldn’t have any hard liquor, champaign, or beer. Trying to be sociable, I would continue to drink wines. When I drink even a glass of wine, I will have a severe headache the following day. I will have very low blood sugar systems, and I will crave sweets. I will have trouble sleeping …or staying asleep. The effects of 1 glass of wine generally last for a day. 2 glasses of wine will generally cause reactions for at least 2-3 days. More than 2 glasses of wine will generally cause me 3-4 days of general ill health. After being diagnosed with a brewers yeast allergy, I realize I don’t need to be sociable anymore. Feeling good is the better path. —Guest Carole “Hangover” from a sip? Well, kinda…not exactly. I’m a college student with an alcohol allergy that runs in the family. Basically, I get a headache, stuffy nose, and my eyes hurt and become sensitive to light (from pressure in my nose). People tried to convince me I was a lightweight and experiencing a hangover, but I didn’t think that a full-blown hangover would happen 20-30 minutes after taking a sip or two. So, I researched and found a website that basically sums up the symptoms and somewhat explains the causes. My solution to dealing with my allergy? I don’t drink because I can’t tolerate the feeling (although I do love the taste of some alcohols), and am always willing to be the designated driver for my friends. This way, I know they will have no chance of getting a DUI, killing or harming themselves or others, and will have someone there if anything goes wrong. The way I see it, it’s as close as possible to a win-win for everyone.

http://www.foodreactions.org/intolerance/alcohol/index.html —Guest DDforlife Non Alergetic Rhinitis I have noted the symptoms associated with this condition more consistently with any alcohol consumption. These include, sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, stuffyness. Now days this starts very quickly with as little as 1/2 a beer. Before I found the description of this condition I had tried taking some alergy medicine before consuming alcohol. It did not help making this consistent with non alergetic rhinitis. After seeing some of the other reactions that others have I guess I am thankful for what I have. It has definitly turned me off on drinking. I consider it a blessing from God because I really do like to drink some beer! —Guest Mark Atchison Kat I get itchy with alocohol and lately with food with dairy and wheat in them. I remember when I was 16 the doc told me to avoid yeast and preservatives because I always felt tired and generally unwell. for years I followed her advice, but once I was 18 I found beer gave me sporatic and chronic indigestion. i have eaten anything I have liked for years and prided myself on being able to eat anything, but in the last 6 months I have had chronic hives. my mother has skin allergies. I have had passed dermatitis but soon cleared up each time with cream. now I am 31 and have had such bad raches and stomach aches over the last 6 months and I have sores all over me. The local docs have been not helpful, except to give me a blood test I return negative for everything. I have narrowed down my reactions to alcohol, dairy and wheat. —Guest Kat Alcohol allergy I’m just wondering if anyone else get this way everytime I drink vodka I get really sick by that i mean throwing up for at least 12-24 hrs I cant move without getting sick, I have even pass out while throwing up it gets so bad. I’m just curious some people rhinks I’m crazy that I can get that sick I can drink rum and other stuff just fine. —Guest Karen Arm pain from drinking My arms ache after I drink half a beer (maybe as soon as it enters my bloodstream) I finish my beer and it goes away. I’ve drank a couple wine coolers (about 20 years ago) The pain in my arms and chest were so severe, I almost went to the ER. It passed after half an hour or so. Then today I had a Strawberry Daquiri for Valentine’s day and I had severe pain again in my upper arms and chest and this also endured for a half hour. I was thinking ER again but knew it would go away and it did. Anyone else ever experienced this? —Guest Sue Allergic to something in Alcohol. I read about the response here and I’m happy that people share their experiences with others who may have or will suffer the same cause.

The only time I drank alcohol was a few years ago, just a teaspoon of beer(Not quite the amount people will expect :p).

My real bad experience was on my 21th birthday, me and my roommate decided to celebrate my alcohol baptism :p, so we bought a bottle of Jack Daniels and a coke, some potato chips and some peanuts.

I drank like 20ml of whiskey with coke and about 20ml with redbull.

Feeling dizzy I went to bed.

When i woke up after 2 hours due to incessant shaking and cold, I was severely swollen and had to go to hospital to have fluids put in me and anti allergic medecine taken.

I’m not allergic to potato chips nor peanuts by the way.

And the symptoms lasted for 1.5 weeks couldn’t go to school or work at all, just lie in bed and I could only move my fingers after 5 days, so bad it was swollen.

—Guest Allen definately allergic to something i am allergic to something in alcoholic beverages. it started as hives, then severe flushing as though i had a sunburn from the inside out. at first taking benadryl 30mins in advance would lessen these symptoms but eventually it progressed to affecting my airway so i dont drink anymore. we suspect that my mom may have celiac disease which would pre-dispose me to inheriting a gluten allergy. i have had allergic reactions to sulfa antibiotics, aspirin, PPD skin tests, latex, guaifenesin, phenylephrine (found in most otc cold meds), & the most recent has been my fave food – shrimp! i am scared to eat or drink anything if i am alone because i am scared that i will have a new allergic reaction to something and die :( i sympathize with you MS., some ppl do have a chemical imbalance with alcohol (esp. liquor) that will make them mean/violent & it is hereditary. my grandfather (who wasnt around), my uncles & my little brother are living proof. there is alot of argument about nature vs nurture. —Guest courtneyp. Shortness of breath and Red face!? I am wondering if anyone has this problem.. Sometimes whenever I have Only a couple glasses of scotch. I start developing a shortness of breath and my face goes extremely red. I look like i am REALLY unburnt. The funny thing i can drink beer and wine till the cows come home, But Scotch or Kahlua are my enemy!! Ive only developed this in the last couple of years because I had always been a scotch drinker. I though it might of been Caffeine Which is found in Kahlua and the Coke i mix with scotch, but it also happens when i have Scotch and dry as well? Why ME! Is there anyone else with something similar? Thanks —Guest Chris Clair 26 Allergic to hops I myself am allergic to hops.. As was my dad and grandpa.. So on and so forth.. Sometimes I’d just get red and hot.. Sometimes I’d completely break out with red splotches all over my upper body and face.. And others.. I’d have no reaction. Now I can’t say this is how everyone is effected by it but after 5 years of trying to figure out the changes in reaction based on the same alcohol consumption I came to fin out that FOOD consumption had everything to do with it. Anytime I would have even a sip of alcohol within 2.5-3 hours of drinkin.. And I’m assuming this depends on individuals body weight.. I would break out. When I would drink outside of the 3 hour wait after eating.. Nothing would happen.. No breaking out or even red in the face. From what I’ve personaly descovered was that the consumption of food along with alcohol allows the alcohol to be carried into your blood stream more quickly.. Causing the reaction to the hops to take effect in a large scale.. I hope this helps someone —Guest Mataustin whiskey allergy(?) I am a college student in Wisconsin, and I can drink an insane amount of vodka or beer no questions asked, no problems. Last weekend I split a bottle of whiskey with a friend however, and though she is smaller than me and drank relatively the same amount, and drinks less frequently I ended up in a non functional state essentially. I thought that maybe I had drank more than I thought so I tried again a few days later with my sister. She watched how much I drank and she drank twice as much nearly and yet i went very suddenly from having fun playing games to barely able to speak or stand. None of this seems right and I have severe memory loss from both nights which concerns me greatly and has never occurred so extremely in the past. I dont know whether this is an allergy and i should just avoid whiskey or if their has developed a very serious problem… —Guest sfrankow Previous 16-30 of 33 Next Share Your Story How Alcohol Allergy Affects Different People Guest Name * Login with Membername or Register Response Title Response Email (optional) Receive a one-time notification when your response is published. Cibi fatti in casa.
